Marketing with YouTube

Chapter 10 of our textbook talks about marketing on YouTube. Currently, YouTube has close to two billion viewers every month. They also have one of the highest success rates when it comes to promoting ads on a streaming service. Surprisingly, it is primarily used by the male population. That statistic was shocking to me because there seems to be a lot more women YouTubers now then there ever has been, with millions of followers. I would think those followers are other women and girls. When it comes to what age groups watch YouTube, it ranges from 13 to 49 years old. When someone starts using YouTube, its algorithm will prioritize videos by relevance, quality, watch time and likes for the viewer. If you can use YouTubes algorithm correctly, marketing a product will be easy. The marketer can do this by using keywords, having captivating titles and descriptions, using tags, and creating crazy thumbnails. The content of the video also plays a huge roll in the video getting viewed and impor

Week Nine of Second Semester

Matt Wilder, your lacrosse student-athlete with another blog. Admittedly, I am more student than athlete this week, because I fractured my thumb in practice and now must sit out for three weeks. Before I get into those details, I will pick up from where I left off last time about the team cancelling their game against us. After that, I promised myself that I was going to have a great week of practice. We started on Sunday because our coach wanted to keep us sharp but also wanted to keep us from having too much fun Saturday night. I was eager to showcase what I had been working on for weeks. Our conference games were coming up and I was itching to get some playing time. Sunday’s practice was review and competition drills to get us ready to play Mount Union in the first conference game. Monday was similar but with super high energy. Everyone was giving it their best effort, especially me. I made sure no one was going to beat me in sprints or out hustle me to groundballs. I was playing we

LinkedIn

Growing up in a family of businesspeople, LinkedIn is used a lot. I had a basic understanding of the app and knew that when I got to college, this would be one of the more important social network platforms I would need to use. However, while reading, I realized there was so much more to this app than I knew. LinkedIn is the largest professional networking platform available. There are about 740 million users, in more than 200 countries. The primary uses of LinkedIn are for professionals to stay connected with one another and to search and apply for jobs. LinkedIn is also great for building a personal brand and connecting with professionals that might work in a field of interest or work at a company a person is trying to get hired into. When compared to the other social media platforms we have discussed, it is most like Facebook, but more professional and networking focused. When it comes to using LinkedIn, the most important part is the profile and its contents. For example, my Linked

Week Eight of the Second Semester

Matt Wilder, your lacrosse student-athlete with another blog. Today I will be talking about our first week back from Spring Break. It was a sluggish and sad week, not just because the team was kind of down because we lost the last two games of the trip, but most of us also had a good amount of homework due that Monday. So, we all just went to bed Saturday night when we returned to rest up and get some sleep. Me being the great student I am, ended up resting most of Sunday as well, so had to get my work done late but was in bed by midnight. At Monday’s practice we prepared for our next two games. The first was a short trip to Indiana on Wednesday night against Trine which we won handily. Saturday’s game was to be back on the road again to New York to play Medaille. Surprisingly they only had a roster of 15 players, and you need a minimum of 10 players to play a game. Since we are a roster of 50 players, I figured this was going to be a great opportunity for me to get a lot of playing ti

Pinterest

When I first think of Pinterest I think of women. I don't think I have met a male that uses Pinterest regularly at all. I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but I am a little familiar with the app because my girlfriend uses it to find good date ideas and things to do. Her friends will also use it for clothing and good vacation destination ideas as well. When it comes to marketing products, Pinterest uses a system called Carousel. Carousel is multiple images pinned together that can show designs or uses of the product in an easy viewing format. What this does is give people a deeper understanding of the product and how it can be applied, before they go visit the website. I like carousel and think it is a great marketing technique that businesses can use to show how their products can be used. It allows the viewer to imagine the use for themselves. It’s a lot different than all the other social media apps we have been covering, where it’s just one image at time in a feed its instead

Lacrosse Spring Break Trip

Matt Wilder, your lacrosse student-athlete with another blog. Today I will be talking about the Ohio Northern Men's Lacrosse team’s Spring Break adventures. Let me say it was one to remember. The bus ride to Maryland was brutal – well at least for me it was. I had to sit behind our trainer on the bus to our first hotel. It was awful. Every time I went to rest my head on the seat, he would push back to get comfortable. This meant I wasn't going to get any sleep on the bus. Luckily, some of my teammates brought fun movies for us to watch. That feeling of happiness was short lived though because our coach wouldn’t play any of our choices. He wanted to put on his own movies which where all about the military. That meant the whole trip I had to hear loud gun shots. It was tough to sleep through that, unless you were my bus mate falling asleep on me. Once we got to our first hotel, everyone was happy to just get off the bus and go to sleep. Sadly, that didn't get to happen either

Tweeting Assignment

Our first big project for our social media class was a live-tweeting assignment. I was so confused and had no idea of what to cover when Dr. Aggie explained the assignment. I had been slammed with homework and practices every day, so I was struggling with what event to do but that's when I thought of doing it on my favorite team, the Chicago Bulls. I have been watching the Bulls my entire life and I would consider them my favorite team now. Honestly, I like whatever Chicago team is doing the best, regardless of the sport, that is except the White Sox. That is where I draw the line. As a Cub’s fan, I am forced to hate them with a passion. With that out of the way, I can go back to talking about the Bulls game. It was a well fought battle between the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls. Late in the 4th quarter, Trae Young the star player on the Hawks hit back-to-back threes to win the game. This was a disappointing loss because the Bulls are ranked 2nd in the East and the Hawks are ran

Social Media Marketing Chapter 7

In Chapter 7 of "Essentials of Social Media Marketing," I learned how a business can advertise themselves on Snapchat. Snapchat is a social media platform that allows people to send pictures and videos to their friends with the addition of the choice to use filters or just little text boxes. When people think about Snapchat, they primarily think it is a way to communicate with friends and a platform to post videos to show what you are doing. Snapchat can also be helpful for promoting businesses. It is very different from the other social media platforms we have learned about, like Facebook and Instagram. First, what you are going to want to do is create a profile with the name of the business as the username. Once the profile is created, permission will have to be granted to make messages public so that everyone can see them. To do that, go into Settings and make sure that everyone is selected. That way people can see and interact with the businesses story. Once the profile s
